Dr Michael Yeong

Dr Michael Yeong is a specialist paediatrician and paediatric cardiologist providing expert care for babies, children, and adolescents with heart conditions. He supports families across Ashgrove, Woolloongabba, and the Gold Coast, from diagnosis through ongoing management and follow-up.

Dr Michael Yeong is a highly experienced paediatric cardiologist and general paediatrician specialising in the care of children with heart conditions. He manages a wide range of cardiac issues in newborn, children and teenagers, including:

• Heart murmurs and abnormal heart rhythms

• Chest pain and fainting episodes

• Congenital heart disease (all forms)

• Acquired heart disease, including Kawasaki disease and rheumatic heart disease

• Inherited cardiac conditions

Dr Yeong has particular expertise in cardiac imaging, including echocardiography and cardiac MRI, and in supporting teenagers with heart conditions as they transition into adult care.

He graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2002 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He completed dual FRACP training in paediatric cardiology and general paediatrics at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013 and 2014, respectively. He undertook sub-specialty fellowships overseas in paediatric and adult congenital cardiac MRI and adult congenital heart disease. In 2018, he became a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and has lectured internationally on cardiac MRI.

Dr Yeong has worked in hospital settings across Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA, including as a consultant paediatric cardiologist at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, specialising in advanced echocardiography, interventional echocardiography, and cardiac MRI.

He is passionate about helping children with heart conditions lead full, active lives and supporting families through every stage of their child’s care. Dr Yeong also holds roles as an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Bristol, UK, an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Congenital Cardiology, and is a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.

Outside of medicine, Dr Yeong enjoys badminton and road cycling.
