Independent health professional providing services to patients from Paeds in a Pod rooms.
Emily Kerwin is a paediatric physiotherapist who combines clinical expertise with creativity and compassion to support children in reaching their movement potential. Her approach is evidence-based, play-focused, and deeply individualised—because every child’s journey is different, and every step forward matters. Emily believes in creating a supportive, collaborative environment for families, with therapy that’s as joyful as it is effective.
With a strong foundation in functional physiotherapy, Emily has extensive experience across:
- Play-based and goal-oriented therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Equipment prescription, including seating, wheelchairs, and orthotics
- Family education and support—empowering caregivers with tools and knowledge
She has a particular interest in early intervention and loves working with children who have:
- Developmental delays
- Neurological conditions (e.g., cerebral palsy)
- Hypermobility
- Neuromuscular conditions
Emily graduated from the University of Queensland in 2016 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (First Class Honours). Since 2017, she has worked primarily in paediatrics across private clinics, non-profit organisations, and multidisciplinary community teams. As a senior and team-lead physiotherapist, she has led professional development, supervised junior staff, consulted on complex cases, ensured quality control, and delivered interdisciplinary training within her organisations.
Emily is committed to continuous professional development and has completed advanced training, including:
- APA Paediatric Physiotherapy Level 1 and 2
- Orthotic prescription training through the OSKAR course by Elaine Owens
- Developmental Orthopedics by Billie Cusick
- Typical Child Development – Australian Bobath Neuro-Developmental Therapy Association
- Paediatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy by Nicole Pates
- Level 1 Mat Pilates
She has also contributed to the development of professional education resources, including helping to create the APA’s online training module “Build Confidence in Paediatric Disability Management.”
Her mantra—every child should have access to movement—drives her passion for breaking down barriers and helping children thrive. She finds deep satisfaction in helping children achieve milestones that open up new opportunities for participation, independence, and joy.
Outside of work, you’ll find Emily exploring local parks with her daughter, heading out on family hikes (with the border collie in tow), or on the hunt for Brisbane’s best coffee.
