Dr Rohan Malik

Dr Rohan Malik is a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist with extensive international experience caring for children with digestive, liver and nutritional conditions.

He works at Queensland Children’s Hospital, where he is part of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Liver Transplant team, providing specialist care for children with a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr Malik has a particular interest in:

• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
• Coeliac disease
• Complex constipation and motility disorders

As part of the Queensland Children’s Hospital motility service, he helps children with complex bowel conditions and works closely with families to develop practical, long-term management plans tailored to each child’s needs.

He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2005, and Doctor of Medicine (Paediatrics) in 2009 through the University of Delhi.

He went on to complete specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology in India and at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, achieving his Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2015.

Before moving to Queensland, Dr Malik established and led the Paediatric Gastroenterology Unit at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where he directed clinical services, training and research for 10 years.

He has also worked at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and has been a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist since 2015.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Malik is an active researcher with more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.

His research has focused particularly on inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease, and he has contributed to international clinical guidelines, secured competitive research funding, and presented his work at national and international conferences.

Dr Malik was inspired to pursue paediatrics by his father, a neonatologist, and developed a passion for gastroenterology because of its complexity, variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives.

He values the combination of clinical medicine, procedural work and ongoing research, and enjoys the challenge of continually learning throughout his career.

Above all, Dr Malik believes in listening carefully to families and helping them understand their child’s condition. As a father himself, he understands how important it is for parents to feel heard and supported. He sees his role as bridging the gap between complex medical science and practical solutions that help children thrive.

Outside of work, Dr Malik enjoys reading and spending time with his young son. He also enjoys mentoring medical students and junior doctors and describes himself as an eternal student who is always curious and always learning.
