Dr Didier Tshamala is an experienced paediatrician based at Paeds in a Pod Ashgrove. He provides compassionate, family-centred care for babies, children and adolescents, with special interests in childhood nutrition, growth, and neurodevelopment.

Dr Didier Tshamala is a highly experienced Brisbane paediatrician, providing expert care for newborns, infants, children and adolescents at Paeds in a Pod Ashgrove. He manages a wide range of paediatric conditions, from general and acute illnesses to more complex developmental and nutritional issues. His professional interests include childhood nutrition, growth and neurodevelopment, and neonatal care.

Dr Tshamala’s passion for medicine began at an early age. As a child living with asthma, he spent much of his youth in hospitals and medical clinics and was deeply inspired by the dedication and compassion shown by the healthcare professionals who cared for him. This experience motivated him to pursue a lifelong career in paediatrics.

He completed his Bachelor of Medicine in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1999 before undertaking his early medical training in the Kingdom of Lesotho. He went on to begin his paediatric training in South Africa, later relocating to Australia, where he completed a dual Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in both General Paediatrics and Neonatology.

Since arriving in Australia in 2006, Dr Tshamala has built an extensive career across Queensland’s tertiary and regional hospitals, including the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Mothers’ Hospital, the former Royal Children’s Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital, Rockhampton Hospital, Caboolture Hospital, and Redcliffe Hospital. His clinical expertise spans neonatal intensive care, paediatric acute care, and long-term management of children with chronic or developmental conditions.

Recognised for his compassionate approach, Dr Tshamala works closely with families to provide holistic, evidence-based care. He takes the time to understand each child’s unique needs, offering clear communication and practical advice to help parents support their child’s health and wellbeing. He finds great fulfilment in helping children recover from illness and grow into happy, healthy young people.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Tshamala has peer-reviewed publications in the fields of nutrition and ultrasound in neonatal and perinatal medicine. He is also actively involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors and medical students, sharing his expertise and passion for paediatrics.

Outside of medicine, Dr Tshamala is a devoted husband and proud father of five. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and making the most of Queensland’s outdoors—camping, hiking, and exploring with his children whenever possible.
